The Daily Scrum is a 15-minute synchronization event where the development team aligns daily. It is not meant for reporting to the Scrum Master or Product Owner but for the team’s self-organization. The central question is: what do we need to do today to reach the Sprint Goal?
In practice, the Daily works best when it takes place at the same time in the same place and the team stands in front of the Sprint board. A developer might mention they are waiting on a code review. The team immediately clarifies who can take it on, instead of letting the task sit idle for half a day. When an impediment surfaces that the team cannot resolve on its own, the Scrum Master takes it. The brevity of the format enforces focus and prevents the Daily from drifting into a drawn-out status round.
The Scrum Guide defines the Daily as one of the five Scrum events. In many teams, the term stand-up has become common, originating from the practice of everyone standing to encourage brevity.
